Designing a Legacy from the Grounds Up

No, that’s not a typo you read! I worked with my client to create their first completely new custom home which now graces the grounds of a magnificently verdant golf course. But this foray into the links was no whim, but a long time coming for my long-time client. You might say I’ve been their trusted “design caddy” for numerous prior residence re-dos—and even a golf course clubhouse. But this adventure was different…grander. A year and a half in the planning, this majestic creation brought together all they love—true American country style, their beloved family antiques, and their love for the game of golf and its storied past. We worked with their builder from day one, emphasizing their desire to achieve a rich sense of authenticity. To that end, antique wood beams and ceiling boards from previous homes were reclaimed to live on in this “new family heirloom,” where they’ll retire, then pass to the generations. A splendid blend of grand awe and warm comfort, traditional charm and contemporary convenience, I was entrusted with everything design—from exquisite knotty walnut cabinetry and intriguing leather-finished granite countertops, to new furnishings that play well with their antiques, to a fountain, to all window treatments…even the bath linens. They have their last home now…to entertain family and friends, to host fundraisers…all in grand style. How fortunate I was to walk the course with them to build a home and a fulfilling relationship, both well beyond par for the course.
